Have you ever seen a psychic?

Total waste.  She said:

"Are you waiting for some money? You're going to get this money"

"You're going to take a trip, perhaps over water."

"This person you want to meet.  You're going to meet this person."

And as if that was not generic enough:

"Would you like to buy a crystal?  Why don't you buy one right now?"

I once saw a psychic in Florida and it was a complete waste of time and money. I first went to an astrologer in NYC who also reads tarot cards. In our very first meeting in 1991, when he talked about relationships, he said everything in a very gender-neutral way. I was so deep in the closet, but somehow he seemed to know that the female pronoun was not just an assumption.

There is a difference between psychic and mediums. I'm not a big fan of those who hang a shingle as a psychic, but I am a 100% believers in mediums and I don't have the time to write about 1000 stories that would make your hair stand up on your back. I worked side by side with a medium and witnessed so many amazing miracles and stories. I've even have had those experiences myself. The signs are out there. We just have to be open to them.

Everybody else around here won't settle for a medium.  They want Large or Extra-Large, if they're going to pay for it.  :)

The most recent tarot reading I was part of was done by Deb (my wife) and I, as part of our New Year tradition of getting feel for the upcoming year. Notably, it said there would be a death in April, which turned out to be our friend Bill/Daddy/Guy. The first reading she did for me was at college in 1971. She laid out the cards, snatched them up and refused to tell me what they said to her. (And no, it wasn't a ploy to get my interest.)

For some people, a reading is mechanical, using the interpretations provided with the deck. For others, that's a starting point, but they look at the imagery on the cards and develop their own interpretations over time. There are even readers who use the cards to help the client focus on their question, and get psychic impressions for each 'position' in the reading that's not necessarily anchored to the card.

And each type of deck is different. Some seem to respond better to questions about specific people, places and events. Crowley's Thoth deck, in contrast, provides a reflection of the forces and influences at work in the person's situation, like the political struggle in a family or business setting.

There are also different kinds of reading layout. A simple three-card reading can provide the past, present, and future of the situation being asked about. The Celtic Cross layout provides information about various aspects of the person's question, and can be used to focus in on any one of them, but that's a discussion by itself.

This is how I read when people ask me to read their cards. I have a deck I bought in college while I was studying the Celts. I was walking through Barnes & Noble and I was drawn to a deck called The Celtic Dragon. Everything about the deck appealed to me. I use a very simple 5 card spread where the client picks the 5 cards and I pull cards as I read to further delve into the reading. While I do start with the stated meaning of cards, I tend to let my intuition draw me to the specific symbols in the cards that presenting themselves as being the important ones which can be different reading to reading.

Let's that that thought a bit farther, then. Since Crowley's Thoth deck responds well to questions about the forces at play in a situation, (as opposed to discrete events and people,) we sometimes engage in what we refer to as future-casting. When the querent is faced with several choices that will pull their life in clearly different directions, we do a series of readings. For each one, the question is framed in the form of 'what will be the result of making [choice X]?' The readings then provide a glimpse of the dynamics that result from each choice. It's a kind of visualization tool that helps to put the querent into different probable futures, enabling them to get a feel for what their life might be like in each case, and that helps them to make their choice. Have you ever tried that sort of thing?

I think I imply that in a sense. I tend not to make outright predictions on anything especially since most of my clients don't actually ask their questions out loud for some reason. Not knowing the specifics of what they want to know makes it hard to be specific myself.

I usually ask my clients to focus on one question or one area of their life they are confused about. The first two cards they pull indicate "how they got to today;" the middle card is "what is happening in that moment;" and the final two cards are "where their mind and energy is taking them based on today." I am a believer in free will so I always tell clients you have the power to alter the future by the decisions you make based on the energy you are projecting. Most people have been pleased with my readings.

Once I met a witch/medium whose tarot reading routine included getting in trance and ask the spirits for help to read the carts so in her case the cards were only some kind of channel but not the only source of information. Fucking scary and accurate for some predictions that so far have been completely fulfilled, and just as in @E.T.Basscase, she also predicted the year of my death at my request. She didn't want to tell me but I insisted. Nowadays I somewhat regret I asked that question.

That kind of question also opens the discussion to philosophy, and to conceptions of whether there is 'a' future containing your pre-ordained date and manner of death, or rather a panoply of possible futures, in which the details of that event vary depending on how you got there. This can be tricky territory to tread for a reader, because the reader and the querent may have different views about that. I suspect the safest way to couch it might be to say that if events continue along the pathways they are now following, your death will likely be in year 'X', because that phrasing can be interpreted either way.

Some readers, including Deb and me, would preface the answer with some words about the future not yet being written: This is a glimpse of things that might be, but we each have the power to make choices, and that could alter which path you follow, leading to a different future.

Sidebar...every time I scroll this title, my mind reads it....

"Have you ever BEEN a PSYCHO?"

Now...who's gonna answer that question honestly?

I'll start. On occasion, but only a few occasions.

Apologies for the hijack. Feel free to ignore, but I seriously keep reading it incorrectly at first glance, I had to break my silence (and confess)! 🤣🤣🤣

I try to avoid having clients ask health related questions especially if they are currently going through something. For me, it's too uncomfortable to read. I will never ever make a death date prediction for anyone. As a child, I was given a "death year" and it fucked me up for a couple decades. Not opening that can of worms for someone else.

I went to a psychic with an escort named Sean Costin after my marriage ended last summer. We were walking the streets of Boston and on a whim decided to get a reading. She looked at me and said you’ve just lost a great love. Don’t worry you’ll find another. It isn’t him. And looked disgustingly and dismissively at him it was hilarious.  I haven’t seen him since.

I read my own palm once… the lines told my I would never see a psychic… Just my fate and  in the cards I guess~
All kidding aside~ I have had these recurrent and fantastic death dreams where I die in my dreams and then fly up to this meeting place where there are columns, marble stone floor and a central podium. Once there, these faceless, handless, feetless individuals wearing burgundy and steel blue hooded/robes gather around the podium where we view a book… we talk about my recent life experiences and then what is to come next… typically, another individual joins in and is introduced to me: someone I will meet once I go back into life after I wake up.
When finished reviewing my life and the book, they close the book and “tell” me, it’s time to go back: (no words are spoken… it’s voices heard as thoughts… these individuals are not speaking thru mouths because, their form is this fuzzy static—electricity-looking-matter and they have no faces etc.)~ They remind me that veils will fall in front of my face and I will not remember the meeting but, when I wake up, I always do remember and I write them down as soon as I awaken~
I’ve had many of these during during the course of my lifetime and the meetings always have something profound about them~ I usually wake up and have some thought or words of wisdom that came about during and as a result from the meetings. I write those down too… I have an entire book of these inspirations from my dreams~
My conclusion is that it’s just me “thinking” in my dreams… nothing mystical, prophetic or clairvoyant about them… just my mind processing things~ I love these dreams and always look forward to them~ It’s seems to be my thinking time~

The first death dream I was shot to death by intruders in my partners home who kidnap my father and I. As the gun goes off in the car we are being abducted in, I’m suddenly running down the street to a neighbors house where there is a party going on. As I am running, I see blood dripping out of my ahead of my body~ When I get to the house of my neighbor, they are downstairs and partying and in slow motion… laughing and drinking~ I see this and then hear this low, grinding “roar” and realize it’s the sound of the car crashing into the street sign and large boulders at my other neighbors house. It’s then I’ve been shot and am dead~
No one can see me. So, I transport to my parents house where my black German shephard dog, “Eclipse” is running around outside trying to get back into the house….
She can see me and I guide her to an unlocked window-well that she pushes open and enters the house via the basement~
Once she is safe, I transport to the hospital where my body is on a table in an empty room and a sheet is over my legs and waist.
At that point, I’m hovering above, look at myself and transition into a large empty stone room where Anubis awaits~  (Explained below the next paragraph).
The second dream I fall off a cliff at a quarry in the neighborhood I grew up in~
All other death dreams I recognize that it’s “meeting time” and I find a way to “take myself out”~ Typically it’s falling and the impact of hitting the ground releases me from my body so I can go to the meeting~ It’s always fascinating to be standing next to my dead body looking down at it~

The first death dream was the best and memorable because, as I drifted away from my hospital room where I was hovering over myself looking down at my dead body, I transported into a large, empty rectangular room with stone floors and walls… at the other side of the room is an open water duct the length of the room and 6’ wide, ( the room Itself is 1/2 of a football field long and 1/4 field wide)… the ceilings are so high it’s impressive… as I stand in the room opposite this stream, a tall black dog figure, (anubis), appears and walks towards me… Silent and without emotion. He over towers me by at least one body length. I take hold of his hand and he walks me to the stream. We stand there briefly and I think about my life… He points forward and I walk across the stream thru a large open stone doorway into a barracks style metal building with dirt floor and open front to my left side… I walk to the entrance… it’s sunny and I look out to see there is an endless trail of people 30 or 40 a breast and the line has no visible beginning or end… people of all ages, shapes, ethnic backgrounds, classes and cultures… They walk in this large pack along this dirt road… When I saw this, I felt sorrow~ My precise thought was: “why don’t they go up~“, at which time, I flap my arms like I’m trying to fly, lift off the ground, stretch my legs outward and forward and fly up to this meeting place with the marble floors and podium~
These death dreams are the best dreams and I always come away from them with something profound~ ( …plus it gives me this opportunity to fly~ I always fly in them~).
I fly in other dreams too… usually to the homes of people I know~
I watch them as they are sleeping or doing things with other people… send them good vibes and then fly back home to my bed~ So much fun~! It always seems nice to visit and send the good vibes~
I’m really atypically when it comes to sleeping… I sleep very little compared to the norm~ When I do sleep, my dreams are almost always profound on some level or illuminating in some way~
They are always in color and sometimes like a series where I pick up where I left off on some past dream. I can pick back up on a dream years later after I’ve had the first~
I’d blame it on television except, I didn’t grow up with TV and I’ve never owned one~
These hooded individuals look like this below in the cloud picture: thin and tall… and not so “dark” and dangerous feeling as the black Hooded picture~  They are Super calm~ Relaxed: not happy or sad~ Not any sense of the being good or evil~ More like “Spock” from Star Trek: void of emotion but, really relaxing to be around and comfortable/not threatening in any way~ Also, no particular gender defined~ It’s always bright at the meeting place~
So, like these ruins below but, surrounded by fog/clouds and uneven marble floor~ The entire meeting area is an intimate space about 30’ x 30’~
The two other fave death dreams were the Armageddon ones~ The first one I had when I was 16 years old. The feeling was very much like the pandemic. Except everybody was on this compound. Families were in small cement block/mud buildings and surrounded by guards and Barbwire. It was dusty and almost desert like. The second Armageddon dream I was running around with my wolf Nanook and This massive earthquake started rumbling beneath us where land was separating and heaving up around us… we were running and jumping from island to island of fractured land and could see lava flowing between and underneath the plaques. The scent of sulfur was so strong and the air was acidic it burned my lungs and I had to cover my mouth with my shirt~
It was Amazing how the event restructured the land… Random massive bodies of water were formed as they were super heated underneath the ground and burst through the lava flows.   The entire event was spectacular~!!! The whole thing seemed to go on for not just a few minutes or two but, the course of hours. The initial event lasted well over 10 minutes I would say but, then there would be aftershocks and things would start shaking again and moving. It was not just that the local area changed but, it was like entire continents changed.
Like everything shifted. It was almost as though the tectonic plates slid and moved in succession or unison and change the geography of the existing continents across the planet~ Some part of it was actually really beautiful if not humbling.
