Did the pandemic create a nation of buff men?

It seems to me that since March of last year, the volume of men who have become attractively muscular is immense. Most surprising to me are the sheer volume of "twinks" who were in porn as wiry types with big cocks in 2019 who have since turned to weight lifting for a hot body to go along with their already nice looking penis. I wish I could remember off the top of my head the name of a relatively new site devoted to twinks fucking hunks. Honestly, many of these youngsters have put on so much beef that at SOME angles it's difficult to distinguish who is who. ?

The first "regular guy" who is famous who I know of that had a body that went from literal twig to genuine stud (who wasn't a porn star) is comedian Carrot Top. Seeing the massive body change of musician Mike Posner, gossip king Perez Hilton, and especially YouTuber Tyler Oakley has been pretty amazing to me. It has garnered a VERY large increase in their fan bases, mostly more men.

I do give kudos to those that have made it a focus to be fit and stay fit since their teens, and still maintain a great looking body when they are advanced in age. Terminally healthy individuals will always have a leg up on their newly joined counterparts, but should be no less interesting. However, I'll always be a fan of before and "after" photos!

Within the realm of normal guys- not social media darlings- I think the opposite has happened.

You see a ton of pre-pandemic pictures being used on ads/apps, when guys were in the gym, eating right and not drinking a ton.

You also might see that singular pic at the end that was uploaded just a couple of weeks ago.

And that's where the extra 15 lbs, shaggy beard and unkempt hair comes into play.

I've lost 55 lbs since the pandemic started. I think its because I stopped getting fast food, and I have had more time to cook healthy food because I've been working from home for almost a year. I have always been 'solidly' built, but not 'cut'. Maybe if I start going to the gym I can achieve a defined physique, even in my 40s - but I'm happy right now to have found at least one set of abs! Several more to go...lol.

Carrot Top, Perez Hilton ???? Gee, what a LOW bar you set..... If anything most PEOPLE have the "Quarantine 15", so they say...... gaining weight during the pandemic from INactivity and over eatting... Perhaps the OP is just watching a bit Extra porn these days, and focusing on an elite group of guys that stay in stape because "their business DEPENDS on it" ? Perez Hilton , REALLY ? You could have at least said Ross Mathews...???

I have been exercising at home during these pandemic months, lifting a bit, started a nice program online of yoga (manflowyoga) and loving it, but I also rediscovered and refined my old passion for cooking......And the amount of food I intake is bigger than the metabolic capacity of the program to shred the fat... ?

Yes, quarantine has shown me how BORING exercising really is...... but I also do love cooking and have been trying lots of new recipes I find on the cooking channels. Who knew my leftover spinach and cheese Quiche filling would make delicious spinach Balls.... and I do love me some Balls :D

I weigh myself at the same time every night before bed, and my weight fluctates within a 4 lb range from day to day. Although my diet and eating patterns at home have remained exactly the same throughout the pandemic, and my exercise level hasn't changed, my average daily weight has dropped 8 lbs in the past year. The only explanation I can think of is that I haven't eaten dinner at a restaurant in months.

As an aside, for the most accurate weight tracking, always weigh yourself first thing in the morning.

I do this once a week. Wake up, go right to the scale. Before taking a piss. Before coffee.

One good thing I've realized about the quarantine is that now I cook just enough for myself and am able to follow stricter guidelines about portion control -- something that I didn't pay much attention to when I used to dine out several times a week. It's translated itself to a slimmer waistline even though for exercise its only online pilates which doesn't really make me drop weight.

I seek your help. I'm retiring the end of this week after 46 years on the job so to speak. Had a great professional career, did good, etc. But I am over weight and know that. Now covid didn't help much although I was in the office every day but I didn't get up and about as much, and that wasn't much, as I should. Soo my question, any idea on buying a simple stationary bike of some type for my man cave. No don't need computers, don't need someone telling me how fast or slow I'm going, just a basic comfortable machine I can sit on for times during the day to listen to music or watch some tv on my new huge bose sound TV. I'm serious, hope I can count on you for some assistance.

My best and honest advice is to invest in a treadmill instead of a bike. When you walk you use your arms, abs, back etc so you burn more calories. You can start by walking around the block. Then two blocks distance. Then 10. Then 2 miles or 4. The treadmill will make it easy to set goals. Write them down! Challenge yourself to do better every day. As you become more comfortable you can increase speed and incline. After 6 months you won't recognize yourself! I call it the "Stephen Fry"!!! ? ? Break out your favorite audio books or prepare a playlist of music with a beat that will encourage you to set a good pace - see article below.

Here is info on a good treadmill: https://www.nytimes.com/wirecutter/reviews/best-treadmill/

Here is info on indoor bikes if you decide to go that route: https://www.nytimes.com/wirecutter/reviews/peloton-review-what-to-know-before-you-buy/

As always, you should meet with your physician to make sure she is okay with how fast you are progressing. If you stick to it, I bet you will end up getting a lot of joy out of retirement! May harmony find you!!

Aside from the Pandemic, another reason I'm not working is because I'm out of shape after a year of not exercising, eating things like gluten and sugar, drinking and smoking cigarettes. I'll pretend to be blonde and pretty via social media until I can get my body back to working order

I'm sure those who know you would not be worried by any imperfections you imagine about yourself!

Agreed, A tread will burn more calories. That's what you need to do to lose fat.

I've got a Peloton tread and love it, but you don't need to go to that extreme. Tons of treads in the $800-1200 range that are great.

I've heard good things about the Sole and Echelon lineup.

Good advice here @rocky - I would also go with a treadmill to burn calories. But you should also consider how to manage your calorie intake for visible results. I haven't tried it but often wondered if the Nutrisystem eating plan advertised on TV with Dan Marino would be a good idea for me to manage my intake. Meals seem filling and fairly edible. Perhaps give it the ol' college try...

Just curious...Why before using the washroom? I weigh myself daily as you suggest but after my morning piss.
