Experiences with the TSA

Several years ago at the United and Delta commuter flights gates in San Diego, I was on my way to LAX to connect with an international flight. A 30ish kinda chubby Hispanic TSA guy after I went through, he used his wand as he started to pat me down as well as to double check me and he grabbed my ass. I knew what he was doing. That's all he did. He pretended to conduct himself as if it was routine. I'm a gay man so I didn't feel harassed. He wasn't my type so I wasn't flattered either. I took it as a compliment.

Did you know you can opt out of the body scanner and ask for a pat down every time? You don't need to wait to be randomly selected

A friend told you that...? 😉

I you wouldn't have hired him... but in a bar would you have taken him home for free?

No, the TSA has signs posted as mandated by Congress.  That's how I was informed of my rights.

I always choose to opt for a pat down.  I don't want to risk any unknown long term effects of the technology, just to save a few minutes of my time.

I knew about folks blaming poppers for HIV, condom carrying AIDS because of the Tuskegee and later the same historical fact used by Pfizer anti-vaxxers who I'm sure trust the same company when it comes to Viagra and PrEP, the QAnon Shaman refusing to eat non organic food because of pesticides, eating dairy made with milk from cows causing diseases, Covid-19 being unleashed by leftists to defeat Trump, I wasn't aware of THAT conspiracy theory.

If one day passengers who ask for a pat down are required to pay a fee would you pay for it?

it has been a while since I travelled, but for a good decade I was a frequent traveler, and the less time I spend in the security line the better - that's why I was thankful for the pre-checks and the accommodations for platinum status flyers. but come to think of it, I haven't really noticed some hot TSA guys in the airports I've been at (or maybe I wasn't looking hard enough). also, even if I opt to be "searched," what are the chances I could actually get the hot one to do that to me...I probably would just feel more disappointed if I opted to do a manual search seeing the hot TSA guy 6 feet from me while another guy who ain't my type hollers at me so he can do my search. I'll take my chances flirting at the flight stewards or just taking glances at the hot pilots.

Heard a news item today that there aren't enough TSA agents to meet the travel demands this summer, as travelers resurface.  I had no idea they were paid so poorly.

And they used to be paid a lot less back when they used contractors for screening.

I'm so glad I have clear and precheck, saves me so much time.   And it's going to be worse when a Real ID is going to be required.   I feel for the people in the non precheck/on status line that will get behind these idiots that don't have real ids

I go through the normal metal detector through Precheck all the time, but won't do the full body scanners.  So if I'm in an airport that doesn't have Pre or the only line open requires the full body scanners, I request pat down.  You literally just say to the person "I'm an opt out" and they pull you aside and you typically wait a few minutes for someone to come over.

I've had a couple pretty friendly guys.  They have a very clear script they have to say as they walk you through the pat down, including the option "would you like to do this in a private area?".  I've never opted for that, and I doubt that any TSA guy would risk a complaint to feel a guy up for a split second.  I've had a couple guys go in very close to the cock and balls and perhaps a little longer than normal, but I doubt it was anything more than just the way it worked out that time.

I was in Seattle a few months ago and a guy in front of me got randomly selected for the additional screening.  As the TSA guy was explaining the process, the guy literally said "here, let's speed this up..." and took his shirt off and stood there in front of the TSA guy.  Dude was pretty fit, covered in tattoos, standing there shirtless.  Caught my attention.

Flew to chicago a couple weeks ago for Market Days and was so glad I had clear both ways.

That friday morning was after Spirit had issues and everyone was flying Delta and I bet the precheck would have taken a half hour to get through (not sure what the non-status, non-precheck line looked like)    Walked right up to the Clear kiosk and was right through, got a lot of dirty looks from people in the line that didn't know what clear was but I figured a lot of them had it at random anyway and didn't even have a KTN LOL.

Coming back that monday my flight got cancelled due to bad weather and a toronado warning and I went to my friends hotel that was staying another night and tuesday afternoon same thing, lines stretched back to escalator from all the people who had rebooked and had to get there to fly standby and was through security in under three minutes.

@handiacefailure sounds like me going through the NEXUS line, when going back and forth to Canada.  The "best" is when Montreal is all backed up, and you have to pull the "pardon me... 'scuse me..." past all of the people waiting on the stairs, going down to the general maze, because they're so backed up, they're blocking your entrance.  One guy stopped me, asked where I was going.  I flashed my card, pointed, and said, "That's my line."

I don't have nexus and should get it since I use to go to Canada a lot via land crossing.   I have GE and love when there are huge lines to cross the border coming back and I can use the Nexus line.

I came back from London yesterday and it was that way with the GE lines in DTW.  There were a couple people trying to use the GE kiosks because they heard they were faster and upset it didn't work.   They had no clu8e you had to have the background check and approval
