I think this was probably peak escort hiring era. It seems from 2010-2019 things started to go downhill. Was it NYC?

I guess NYC because of so many potential clients.

yes, it was the golden era and those who worked then and saved/invested the money made a fortune. Less competitors and no alternative ways of hiring guys. Besides there was craigslist and backpage for low income/PNP clients and that kept them away from bothering escorts in mainstream sites like men4rentnow.com and rentboy.

one more thing @Merboy the best city for one guy could the worst for another one. Many things depend on demand and looks, getting lucky catching a big spender in a town also makes a big difference.

The golden age wasn't because of a city or location.

It was because at that point the internet and social media hadn't yet ruined a generation's ability to communicate like normal people.

This was also back when escorts cared enough to give themselves full names and maintain actual personalities.

You forgot to drop your mic when you finished. You hit it right in the head. I haven't hired in the US in years for this very reason. Everyone I've met here seems detached and totally not into what they are doing. I miss the golden age. Thankfully these experiences still exist when I travel.

In that decade, I traveled extensively for the hobby. My top travel destinations were Philadelphia and Fort Lauderdale for the quality and breadth of the marketplace, as I perceived it then. Not one trip was ever wasted. Good times!!!

In contrast, I have wasted several trips in the past 5 years, which is why I rarely do it now. I'm no longer interested in trying to recreate the success of the good ole days.

I have a feeling that NYC's days as gay capital may be ending. The city's just too expensive. It needs a complete revival.

Fully off-topic here:

Watch the new Scorsese Netflix docuseries with Fran Lebowitz, Pretend It's A City, and then tell me with a straight face that NYC isn't (still) the center of the world. She makes one hell of a compelling- and entertaining- argument that it is.

Manhattan has always been expensive... But people still come.

They find a way to survive it and make it work. That's part of what makes it special.

NYC is seriously addictive, like heroin. Moved here in late '80's for my job and thought it was for 4 years or so, now 34 years later wont live anywhere else

I moved to NYC in 1986 as an 18 year old and stayed for about 25 years when I moved away. I had a great ride.....gaiety was an experience of a lifetime.....I get excited just thinking about it. I also prefer RB over RM. met so many amazing guys over the years. Haven’t hired in just about 1 year now. Not sure when I feel comfortable agin with corrona , although I did get my first shot of the moderna vaccine yesterday. Arm is a bit sore otherwise I feel fine. I know a lot of escorts are really hurting for business, and hope they can get through this terrible pandemic.

Where do you find more engaging guys during your travels? Any particular cities stand out?

When I visited NYC from 2000 to 2005 the Gaiety Theatre was still open. It was possible to see the escort on stage, then talk with him in the side room to see what his personality was like. With escorting sites like rent.men (and the lies that are posted there) one cannot get a feel for the provider's personality.

I went to Gaiety theatre back in 2004 with another gay friend. Looking back I wish we had sat in the front row but we just didn't have the guts nor the dollar bills to stay there. It was cool to meet the strippers afterwards in that side room; kind of like the stage door area outside a Broadway theatre.

I visited the Gaiety twice around the turn of the century. The second time I took my sister to see the show. Yeah, really.

I wouldn’t have done that in Montreal as too many of the dancers knew me and I wouldn’t want to appear as a slut to her.
