Partners' input when getting tattoos?

If you have (or had) a domestic partner/husband/steady, would you ask his opinion or input before getting a tattoo? What if he said he preferred you didn't?

I told my husband I would leave him if he got a tattoo. Of course I wouldn't have but he got the point. But I know some guys love them....

He could get one only if it read: My husband is very understanding and I'm not as stupid as this tattoo makes me look.
