It was just this time last week, I had pulled $1,200 in 1 weekend visiting a new market. Which was great. And if it happened EVERY week like it’s supposed to, that’d be a nice $62K a year decent income. But it didn’t make up for the other 2-3 weeks prior where I had no bookings. And once again, it’s been another weekend of no bookings. Lots of inquiries, and texts...but no bookings.

It’s hard to tell if it’s COVID, the hookup apps, the market I’m in (been mainly in medium sized Midwest cities, as opposed to high traffic places like San Fran, Boston, DC, etc), all of the above or just me. But more and more it seems to be the same: I get back to back days with nothing, followed by a day or two where 2 to 3 clients at the same time. Then back to unexpected stretches of Timewaster, after Timewaster after the next.

If someone took a scroll thru my text feed, they would probably want to cry for me, seeing the amount of “let down” texts I receive day in, day out. Conversations that suddenly went unanswered, last minute cancels, and just general flakiness.

Even regulars who were previously good the first time or a few times, are becoming the biggest Timewasters. I can’t even count how many client relationships have gone bad over the past couple years, because they contact me, I stop what I’m doing to respond to them and entertain their requests, only to get stood up time after time.

They don’t seem to see anything wrong with it. They put the blame on me as if I cold called them. No, YOU reached out to me, and interrupted what I was doing, to stop and converse with you. Yet they want to cry extortion and lawyers when I ask to get some kind of reimbursement for the time I lost for #1 arranging my time for them, and #2 being out expected earnings.

I had a client friend today say, “well doesn’t everyone get no shows”. I would think. But it’s not just “no shows”. It’s hours added up of legwork, and not seeing the appropriate return. And I’ve said before, I’ve spend $150 a month on ads, just to be frustrated. I wouldn’t be complaining if like back in the days of Craigslist, it was just free advertising. But I’m spending my money, only to be harassed by bullshit all week long. It makes no sense. One guy I know was like, it just seems to really get to you. In a way that insinuated, I’m too weak to handle it ??‍♂️

But it’s easy to say when one doesn’t understand how it feels to be in a position where you’re already financially limited, having to entertain inquiries and getting hopes up 2 or 3 times a day expecting a booking, and not getting one. Thinking when the next text comes thru, a booking will come out of it. Yet it doesn’t. And then it happens multiple times a week. Until the 1 or 2 good days come along, in which the money goes quickly because too many days went by not getting any serious inquiries.

It’s as if advertising has become more of a job search, than an actually job itself. I left the workforce because I didn’t like the idea of going on interviews, and doing lots of legwork for employers that wouldn’t end up hiring me anyway.

But it’s become a point where being full time escort is seeming careless. I’m feeling forced to have to get another job, in order to continue being an escort. Sounds clichè? Because it seems I always need to maintain somewhere to host, because most clients can’t. And I have to keep paying $150/mo.+ for ads... unless I just start cutting some websites: namely Adam4Adam and RentMasseur which seem to have the majority of the flakes.

I’ve took up other forms of sex work (massage/fans sites), but it’s all 1 in the same. It used to seem that guys who full-timed escort were like a badge of honor. We devoted ourselves to this industry, and were in turn taken very seriously. And did well. But now it’s just a game, and I just don’t see how I am supposed to support myself much longer, at this rate.

You seem to have many talents. You are verbal, detail oriented, used to juggling time constraints and multiple priorities. If you ever consider a career change, think about project management as a new career. I suspect you will do well! ?

I hope business picks up for you.

Don't get down on yourself or the industry. I suspect a lot of apprehension is due to the rising Covid rates. No doubt clients who are becoming bored are seeking relief from sexual tension in these trying times by corresponding with an escort and fantasizing about getting a good blow job without any intention of following through. There have always been flakes but I expect Covid times have increased the number.

Due to COVID, and the uncertainty of everything, this is an ideal time for you to step away, take a break from that business and see what else you want to do. Who knows? You may not even miss the business once you leave it. I sure don’t. You can always hop back into it in the future and by then you won’t be totally dependent on it.

Makes sense. But it’s just a real cruel game to play. I have even had a client or two use the “I’m afraid of Covid” excuse, and I tell them...you weren’t scared enough to go looking for connection with another person. If they knew all the while they were concerned, they should have been knitting or painting...not cruising ? for a bruising ?

Due to COVID, and the uncertainty of everything, this is an ideal time for you to step away, take a break from that business and see what else you want to do. Who knows? You may not even miss the business once you leave it. I sure don’t. You can always hop back into it in the future and by then you won’t be totally dependent on it.

That’s true. And that’s also the part I’m somewhat “afraid” of. Not afraid in the sense of the word, but in a way: what if I do leave...then can’t go back to it because I don’t only just miss it, but afraid that if I put myself out there again, I’m going to lose interest in the biz again, after the 1st flake. Or just afraid of having my time wasted again and again.

I don’t even see how people who do have a regular real time job can even do this “on the side”. If I had a regular job that was paying me decent money, I would have no interest or very little tolerance dealing with this level of inquiries. Maybe a cancelled appointment doesn’t sting as much, but I can’t imagine having someone cancel after I done worked 8-10 hours all day long...and not feel a bit annoyed by it.

I’d be like, why am I wasting my time dealing with this shit, when I already am earning money? Or be at work and listening to mother suckers say, “Can you meet last minute by chance”, or “the time you get off work is too late for me”, or “I’ll try back another time”... which never comes or comes months later, and it’s the same shit: last minute and they can only meet in their tiny window of time, never the time that works best for me.

I had to explain to a young client today (he hired me once, but we’ve been back and forth communicating as “pen pals”, which I’m starting to wonder about these things now). I told him I’ve been dealing with flakes all weekend. He decides to throw in the convenient, “why not get a full time job”. As if I can just stop what I’m doing, and find a job as quickly as finding a corner ATM ??‍♂️

I said first off, don’t tell me how to manage. And 2nd...I’m tired of people blaming the provider. I’m not some hobo out here looking for handouts. It cost goddamn, $150 a month to advertise on RentMen, RentMass, and A4A. I’m not just out here posting Grindr ads looking for money. So to sit around and be toyed with day in, day out by people who can't be bothered to READ ads, plan things with no coordination, or flake and bail and leave me high and dry...is not something I need to be reprimanded for. I’m just doing my duty. Address the ones who need to be reprimanded.

That got him together real quick.

That’s what I make in two whole weeks...you whine a lot

Like I said... if you read what I said, that didn’t make up for the other 2-3 weeks where I made nothing. That $1,200 didn’t last much past the weekend because I was already behind on bills, not to mention the hotel and the cost to get to the city. And I could have made more, but I had some other flakes here and there. This weekend, I’ve not had a single confirmed booking.

And at this point, I’ve gone ahead and iced my RentMen platform, because I don’t need the clock to be ticking if I’m not getting any hits in this area. I’ll defrost it once I get into a better market. The others will have to do for now.

I was going to suggest this a while ago to you...

Have you ever considered getting a mentor?

Seriously, a mentor.

In every other field of business, a mentor can guide you in achieving your goals, succeeding, and avoiding possible pitfalls.

I’m certain there are successful pros, who have done well, and could advise you on strategizing a new blueprint for ongoing success.

At the least, there are other guys on this forum, who are in the business, and seem to be avoiding some of the issues your having. They could possibly be a good resource of advising to you.

I wouldn’t see any harm in addressing these issues in the “ask an escort”, section of this site.

@Jarrod_Uncut – Have you considered writing? A memoir?

You don’t understand – it would seem from your posts here – the nature of concision and you love to wax grandiloquent and ad nauseam about yourself. Writing a memoir might be the greatest thing for you to do. You’d get to bitch about how bad escorting has been for you while not doing it!

Might I propose a title? Jarrod Uncut: The Plight of a Queerulous Narcissist

Maybe timewasters can't afford you or they're shopping around. If they truly like you sooner or later they'll hire you.

If you don't like working all the time in small Midwestern cities travel around the country. It's a great time to go to NYC or SF, hotels couldn't be any cheaper.

If someone took a scroll thru my text feed, they would probably want to cry for me, seeing the amount of “let down” texts I receive day in, day out. Conversations that suddenly went unanswered, last minute cancels, and just general flakiness.

If you spend 150 in ads per month you'll only need one client to make a profit, obviously that wouldn't be enough to live.

@Jarrod_Uncut – Have you considered writing? A memoir?

“I don’t even see how people who do have a regular real time job can even do this “on the side”.”

I have three regulars. One does well as a stylist, one is in grad school, and the other works in hospitality. I get along with all three so well that I see them regularly on the side. None have ads anymore. It is possible to have a full-time gig and do this on the side if you have a small group of regulars. In fact, it’s a great way to supplement income and have some nice trips as well.

Ugh, thankyou for the reminder! Many jobs do require wearing a mask 8 hours a day, and even though people tout the benefits of a mask...I often find myself lightheaded and coughing and sneezing as soon as I put on a mask. Not to mention, the reduced airflow of doing so...I’d likely need to do the face shield route.

A bit off topic, and this in no way is an anti-mask statement: but masks remind me of those car bras people put on their car. The manufactures tend to consider those as “obstructions” to the airflow reaching the radiator and condenser. Even though it protects your paint (and even protects your condenser and radiator from rocks/bugs) If a fan malfunctions in the cooling system, the temp gauge will spike VERY fast. I’ve had it happen on one of my vehicles. That’s how it can feel when someone like myself with asthma, has to wear a mask for extended periods of time.

But just to be clear, I never touted that I wanted to get a 2nd job. I just stated what others have said to me. I just made an observation that it “SEEMS” like that’s something that is required to maintain in this biz. We have to have consistent income to get a nice incall place, otherwise we won’t make much money because 80% of clients (at least in repressed Midwest towns) can’t host. We have to have steady income to pay for ads+our regular bills. The “1 appointment will pay for those ads” analogy sounds good on paper, but that’s not how it actually is:

Let’s say I have only 1 appointment the week my RentMen ad is due. You have to subtract that from the rate. RentMen ads are not a Revolving credit card. I don’t just immediately get that money available to me when I pay the bill. I have to then wait until the NEXT appointment, in which I may have already paid for 2 or 3 other ad spaces.

And I say that because I met a guy in my neighborhood who does massages and has a very nice townhouse. When I inquired further, he had a full timer doing nails, and his massages were also in one of those Asian salons. He only did at home massages by appointment only.

gone bad because they don't hire you anymore?

No, gone bad because they contacted me to schedule time, and then didn’t uphold their end of the bargain. And then when I mention I have a cancellation fee for missed appointments, some want to fight and argue with me about something THEY INITIATED TO BEGIN WITH.

I told off a client who I’ve known for couple years who always comes to Saint Louis from Michigan to visit his parents the other week (and truth be told, we had a couple of issues in the past anyway).

He hits me up in the afternoon, says he is in town and wants an appointment, sends me the address we were set to meet at 11 that evening. By 7 o’clock he’s telling me something may be coming up, and now he can’t meet. I told him I understand his circumstances. But he’s done it before and this time he didn’t bothered leaving me a cancel fee, I told him if he can’t keep the arrangement, don’t contact me again. How many times do escorts get to do the same thing?

Good weeks and bad weeks happen.

I'm surprised some escorts kept on working even during the semi lockdowns we had in the NE corridor.

Yes, what used to take 2 mins now takes 30 mins of texting.

gone bad because they don't hire you anymore? Maybe they're skeptical about violating social distancing with someone who for a living does it several times a week if the week is good.

I would let it go and let them contact me if they want.

If you spend 150 in ads per month you'll only need one client to make a profit, obviously that wouldn't be enough to live.

A lot of folks work 9-5 in as store clerks and get so bored... you have time to hit the gym, walk, watch TV, etc while waiting for a phone call to happen.

it takes time and effort to get a job. I

You have mentioned several times before the idea of getting another job. Do it! Btw it's a tough time to get another job and you might be required to wear a mask for 8 hours.

Most guys still do think of themselves as escorts as an honorable profession and it is!
