I'm not sure whether you are looking for a workout or a way to fill your dance card, but American Fitness (Chelsea, Eighth Avenue between 16th & 17th) is the only gym in New York which advertises as an openly gay gym for gay people, and it is also sort of unofficially known as the gym for porn stars, escorts, bartenders, strippers, etc. Not that the management of American Fitness wants to really acknowledge this, but there's no shortage of hot young men there who seem to have jobs that allow them to work out in the middle of the day, and are constantly interrupting their workouts to answer their cellphones. There is sauna & steam, and it's also a full-size, very well-equipped gym, so you can actually get a good work out there if you want to. You may even see me (and more than a few others from this site) there...

Didn't like American Fitness at ALL. Typical gay social posing center. Yuck. Much prefer Chelsea Piers Sports Center.

I've been away for awhile so I'm just now seeing these responses, or I would have replied before.

 

Manhattan, I'm laughing because of course, you're absolutely correct. But then, isn't that what you would expect from a place such as I've described? And although my post in the "beating a dead horse" thread should make clear the esteem with which I hold those muscle queens, even I have to admit that the posing is a big part of the fun. Gotta love it for what it is!

 

And you're right again, Chelsea Piers is certainly a far superior facility, but you can't exactly say that it's conveniently located, unless you happen to live in the Hudson River.

 

As for Bally's... Hooboy, you ARE going to have to find another gym! Although there's alot of suburban Bally's all across this country which are really pretty good (in fact, in many of those suburbs, the only redeeming thing in them is their Bally's), for some reason Bally's in Manhattan just plain suck. I got plenty of guest passes, Hoo... wanna workout?

 

Hey, and if anyone is wondering why I'm such a know-it-all about gyms... just as it happens, I have three different gym memberships currently active, and I think I have probably worked out in every single gym in Manhattan at least once.

 

You know... it's sort of like Sean collecting real estate... I collect gyms...
