By my never-reliable reckoning, this will be Message #26, but in reply to Message #15, as Skeptic and Rod seem to have had a cat-fight towards the mid-20s count. I'm moving to safer ground. (But why can't people who don't like a thread simply move on? If Matt or anybody else wants to talk about sucking and fucking -- not that we all don't -- there are plenty of places on this site to do it. Why do they have to scold those of us who are enjoying ourselves otherwise? I don't get that part of M4M Escorts Review.)

But back to Rod. You should have bought the Arthur Tress. I think he is one of the great American artists in his particular niche and so far he has not been wildly discovered. But I'd look around. You can almost certainly find older, signed prints through good photography galleries. THE BEST, in my opinion, is Wessell and O'Connor in New York. They specialize in top-quality (i.e., fine art) gay photographers from Gloeden to Lynes to the present. You should especially see the work of John Dugdale. Unbelievable. (If you want to go private about this, that's fine with me. Discussions of where and how to buy contemporary art would be a case of genuine high-jacking.)

The reason this little aside seems appropriate (to screwy old me, anyhow) to this thread is that artists like Tress have found that precise edge in male/male sex that makes it utterly different in kind from male/female and (I dare to imagine) female/female sex. It was probably Mapplethorpe who found the sharpest part of that edge; but all the other great ones have their own quality.

But, no, dear Rod, not even Robert Mapplethorpe routinely finds a place on the syllabi of even intermediate courses in modern art. I'd even venture to guess that of them all, only (that New England photographer of ca. 1900 whose name escapes me at the moment) can be found on syllabi of courses on American photography.

Such an omission of women artists or artists or color would be unthinkable, not even possible, in these our blessed Post-Modern, multi-cultural days. But active anti-Christianism and passive homophobia are still alive and acceptable in even the most ivy-draped halls of higher education. More's the pity.

Oh come on, that was an insightful observation delivered with impeccable timing: the very definition of wit. Are you that sensitive? You resort to equally witty retorts by the end of nearly every post you enter or begin. My fondest memory is the one where you wrote "there being no emoticon for puking" to defend your response to the escort who detailed his experience of hiring an escort. Now THAT was funny, but not necessarily progress.

If this is just to upsetting for you, on the other hand, than maybe you should have excersised better judgement and not entered a string about "brainy escorts" since that is not your thing, even though you of course have every right to. I don't know I'm tired of the banter, you too? -Hagen

Thanks to Will and Red for their kind words (I enjoy their wit, as well), but I must say I find it a bit insulting when I hear how surprised a client is that I have a brain "too." Is it the general consensus that we escort because we have little to offer society, and couldn't make it doing anything involving thought? There are many reasons we choose to escort...and I do mean "choose." It's not always a last resort or an act of desperation.

I thought that when Suzanne Somers published her poetry, the world finally realized that bimbos can be deep. Oh, well...maybe when Britney Spears writes an "advice for girls" column for the Wall Street Journal.

Guest Skeptic

Hell, Rick, those gals have nothing on our very own Quinte du Soleil & Aaron Lawrence as far as sheer babe-osity & deep thought are concerned!

The BF and I went to our favorite Mexican restaurant last night for dinner. Why do so many restaurant's have no soft surfaces in their decor for swallowing up some of the noise anymore? Well, we were treated as we often are there to a three or four piece Mariachi band in a fairly small room. We couldn't really hear each other during their songs. Convesation went zip nada.

But it made me think of this thread. What a good place for some people to take their dates. If all you want to do during dinner is to smile and nod and ogle your companion's male beauty, why not take in a restaurant where you can't talk anyway?

Of course I mean that as a joke. People who don't want brains in their escorts don't take them to dinner, do they?

  • 20 years later...

It's often said that the brain is our most active erogenous zone, and recent posts suggest to me that I am not alone in being as much or more interested in what's between an escort's ears as I am in what's between his legs. Looking back over some of the more interesting (to me) threads, I see that Rod Hagen, first and foremost, Gino Mancuso, and Rick Munroe are among the escorts who have exceptionally witty and wise ways with words.

Are there other escorts who are as good over the dinner table as they are in bed? I'm not talking about formal education. You don't have to be smart to be educated and not all really smart people have had the privilege of an education. I have four "best friends." Two of them have Ph.D.'s and the other two never went to college at all. But all four are among the smartest men I have ever known.

Who are the escorts really skilled in using words? Who are the great conversationalists? Who know how to make sex as much fun with what they say as with what they do?

This is an interesting topic. While sexual attraction is primarily the first criteria in my search on those sites, I do get more excited meeting guys that have exciting profile descriptions and answers to their interviews. Now I wouldn't necessarily just categorize it as 'brainy,' as I do not consider myself as such, but I enjoy someone who can carry an organic conversation about life and experiences, and not necessarily of the academic or political kind.

I'm fine with this thread revival, as it once again reminds me of why I miss Rick Munroe around here

The difference between the guys you hire for an hour and those you hire for a weekend or more is truly night & day.

Not sure why you brought up a 20 year old thread rather than starting fresh. As for this topic, it is always pleasure to have a great conversation whether it be well constructed dialogue at the dinner table or grunts and groans in the bedroom. Both forms of communication work for me.

IDK - is there a leading practice for bumping (really) old threads vs. starting new ones (that could be seen as repeat or duplicative)? Seems like there would be someone out there who'd have something to say about either approach regardless. But tbh, I have been reading old threads just to see how conversations were like back then, and then I just reply to topics that I thought were interesting.

No rule. And you did get one of the great minds of escortdom to answer it. Not me, Ben Nicholas. However, twenty years is a long time and while not much has changed in terns of intelligence being a great aphrodisiac, it did take a bit of wading through a long forgotten personal feud to get to your point. In this case, in view of the domination of that feud in the thread, courtesy to those who wrote that two decades ago would have led me to start a new one, especially since Mr Hagen has been a recent posting member.

There is an escort in NYC, Russ, who attracted by attention with his great body which has not gotten a bit too big for my tastes but also his funny, well considered and might one say, erudite ad. I do not know if he is still using that ad, but if not, I am sure whichever one he is using is equally fetching in its delivery.

You're going to tell me that a pound of feathers falls slower than a pound of lead? Would it not depend on the aeryodynamics of the objects in question?

(If your tonque just got hard, I win!)

LAST EDITED ON May-22-00 AT 03:03PM (EST)[p]Great topic Will. Of course I normally approach Brainy chit chat from a Science, or philosophy of Science angle. Bring up Evolution vs. Creationism, or why global warming is or isn't baloney, and I am INSTANTLY turned on. Unfortunately, here in Los Angeles, the majority of conversations deal with Abs routines, cell phone service, and the "new and exciting stage" someone's screenplay is at. "There's an election coming up? An opportunistically weak Euro? Superstring theory?" "That's well and good, but anyway, after I did 3 sets of 20 crunches, and was moving on to leg lifts, my phone rang, and you know how awful the reception can be in the gym. So anyway, I answered the phone and it was my agent, so I said Hello, and......." SIGH, get me outta here!!

Graduate Degrees are perhaps not the most accurate measure of a man, but I have ALWAYS regretted not pursuing mine in one of my fields (Biology, international relations or Engineering). But how could I EVER return to the scrimping and saving of university life? I couldn't. Still I do appreciate them and no surprise, some of the clients I have the Hottest sxperiences are MDs; better yet, MDs who also hold Phd and/or is specialized, that is always a plus.

Will, do you find scientists (escorts or not) are often limited in their range of conversation, or do you find Liberal Arts men, such as yourself, to be too sweeping in their claims with very little grasp of specifics to back them (not you of course)? Or neither. Example I just had a client who was a research scientist at UCLA, sounds right up my alley, but all he could talk about was his work. Like so many scientists he had an overinflated opinion of the importance of his work. On the other hand, I also had a client recently, arts and humanity degree, who could not grasp the idea that all objects fall at the same rate! Anyway, LOVE your posts.

Or being required to spend 8 hours a week in the Organic Chemistry Lab, in addition to the 3-4 hours a day one must spend simply working out the equations.

Of course the best solution is to double, or tripple (as I did) major.

let me know the title of your favorite Umberto Eco novel since "Foucault's Pendulum"

And 20 years later.....

I’m reminded about how my infatuation with with my luxury top brother started!

The world has changed SO much in 20 years. Anal sex is legal, gay marriage recognized, internet rules our lives, iPhone, etc.

Answering the OP's question, yes... good escorts are not only good in the bedroom but they're also knowledgeable, educated, have their lives together, etc. They also have an interesting activity, well-traveled, etc.

. For some of us, this site was a wonderful resource on the Internet to discuss escorts and life in 2000. My review of the escort Billy Brandt was written in September 2000

No leading practice. I'm very much in favor of resurrecting old threads vs starting a new one (assuming you have something new to say about it). I don't see the point of multiple threads about the same topic. But I know others disagree.
