I agree that the term is abominable. I didn't even know what a "wifebeater" shirt was til someone explained to me that that's what I'm wearing. I grew up in the old school. This shirt was called simply an undershirt-without sleeves-as opposed to a T-shirt. I wish more people would call them undershirts. I don't know why but I have such a fetish for the sight, feel, and texture of the shirt and it's distinct outline that can be seen through shirts and it's heaven on earth if I could meet someone who wears them. Do you have a fetish for getting natural wedgies and picking them out? I would like to hear from people why in the 1970s, with bell bottom jeans and bikini underwear, guys got natural wedgies all the time. Nowadays no one gets them because of the damn boxer briefs.
